Standard operating procedures for pre-trip inspections, power take-off (PTO) safety, and lockout/tagout protocols.
Before any tractor, implement, or heavy transport vehicle is operated on site or public right-of-ways, the operator must complete a physical walk-around check:
Power Take-Off shafts rotate at high speeds with lethal torque potential. Never step across a rotating PTO shaft. Always disengage the PTO, shut down the engine, and wait for all motion to cease before clearing clogs or servicing attached implements.
When performing maintenance, blade sharpening, or gear servicing, isolate energy sources. Turn off the master ignition, remove the key, engage parking brakes, and apply physical lockout tags to prevent accidental startup.
Never bypass safety interlocks, seat safety switches, or shielding guards to save time. Equipment accidents involving unshielded rotating shafts or hydraulic pinhole leaks carry catastrophic injury risks.
