Research, Engineering & Academic Synergy
Pairing engineering, environmental science, and agricultural disciplines (leveraging local networks like LBCC and OSU Extension) with hands-on field trials to bridge lab-grade science with boots-on-the-ground execution.
⚡ The Institutional Symbiosis Model
Academic programs often seek real-world field sites for student capstones and telemetry testing, while operational hubs need rigorous data hygiene and scientific validation. By embedding student researchers directly into our volunteer and watershed training sessions, we create a mutual multiplier: students gain authentic lab and field access while substantially boosting program engagement metrics and grant-readiness documentation.
1. Soil Telemetry & Tracking
Environmental Science Track
Monitoring baseline versus amended soil conditions, tracking pH stabilization, moisture retention rates, and temperature differentials in biochar test plots.
2. Carbon Conversion Efficiency
Engineering & Design Track
Optimizing airflow manifolds, thermal retention in trailer-mounted portable kilns, particulate reduction, and feedstock conversion yields relative to wood moisture content.
3. Nutrient-Charging Trials
Agricultural Science Track
Testing co-composting methods, microbial inoculation rates, and nutrient-loading efficacy of 1,500-lb super sacks prior to field or farm application.
🏛️ Leveraging Institutional Partnerships (LBCC & OSU Extension)
By establishing clear cooperative agreements with regional academic and extension networks, student researchers gain sanctioned access to field sites for course credit, internships, or capstone projects. In return, the AFTI portal leverages institutional lab facilities (e.g., for precise soil carbon-content analysis or heavy-metal testing in urban/agricultural transition zones) that would otherwise require costly commercial testing.
